how to defrost hotpoint freezer

I have a Hotpoint freezer that needs to be defrosted. I’m not sure how to do this and I’m hoping someone can help me out. I’ve looked up some information on the internet and it seems like I have to unplug the unit and leave it to defrost for a few hours. Is this the best way to do it? Is there anything else I should do to make sure it’s done properly? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
