ge refrigerator noise stops when door open

I have a GE refrigerator that has been making a strange noise lately. Whenever I open the door, the noise stops. I’m not sure what the noise is or why it stops when the door is opened. I’m looking for some advice on what the problem could be and how to fix it. Has anyone else experienced this issue with their GE refrigerator? If so, what did you do to fix it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  1. When the door of a GE refrigerator is opened, the noise it makes typically stops. This is because the motor that powers the cooling system is designed to turn off when the door is opened, in order to conserve energy.
